The Weekender: October 8 - 10

Happy Thursday! Looks like we’ve got a beauty of a fall weekend on tap, complete with one sunny day and one drizzly day (perfect for whipping up some comfort food and watching football). There’s a lot going on this weekend, so without further ado…

 
 

West Mountain Fall Fest: Excited to see West Mountain’s Fall Festival on the calendar for this Saturday and Sunday (and next weekend, too!). Looks like they’ve got a little something for everyone - wagon rides, chair lift rides, hikes, a petting zoo, pony rides, food, and brewery + distillery tastings. Sounds good to us! Halloween Sweets: Trick or treat, neighbors! It’s sneaking up quickly, and if you’re looking for some sweet treats for the kiddos (or yourself for that matter), get your cookie orders in with Abby’s Cookie Jar before the deadline on October 11! Here’s the link.

Save the Date: Date night! You’ll want to mark your calendars for October 24 - how does A Night at the Speakeasy sound? Art for a Good Cause: Our friends (and sponsors!) at The Glen at Hiland Meadows are celebrating two decades of service to the senior community with an online art auction / fundraiser held through Wednesday, Oct. 13. The auction will feature the works of Tom Ryan, an Adirondacks artist and resident of The Glen who donated 67 (!!) paintings from his remarkable collection for sale. Profits from all artwork sold will be donated directly to The Glen's Memory Care Center Campaign. Check out the auction here.

 
 

Movies in Pumpkin Patch: Washington County Fairgrounds is hosting a full weekend of movies to benefit The Salvation Army of Warren, Washington, and Saratoga Counties. Landscapes for Landsake: More art for a good cause! Two things we love? Beautiful country scenes and beautiful art! The Weekender: October 1 - 3

Happy weekend, and Happy October! Fall colors are appearing on the trees, leaves are falling, and we found ourselves searching for warmer coats when we went out on our walk yesterday morning. It’s happening! Soaking up this sweet season and hope you are too.

The Weekender: September 24 - 26

Happy weekend! But more importantly, Happy Balloon Festival Weekend! The sight of all those hot air balloons in the sky in the morning still makes me as giddy as an adult as it did when I was a kid, and we’re guessing you all probably feel the same way. And so that said, here’s what we’ll be up to this weekend…

 
 

Adirondack Balloon Festival: No surprise here! We’ll be up before the sun both days and can’t wait to see those hot air balloons take flight as the sun comes up. Get all the details, including the schedule changes for this year and the all important directions and parking info here.

Fall Sweets: If you’re a fan of The Muffin Top Baker’s cookies, you’re in luck - she’ll be having a pop up through Friday at Studio Elements on Lawrence Street - follow along with her on Facebook here for all the details!

 
 

Wool & Arts Festival: Another festival this weekend! The Adirondack Wool and Arts Fest is held at the Washington County Fairgrounds and features over 100 local artisans and their crafts, including wool, pottery, wood, and lots more. Plus - craft beverages and all your fav festival foods. Details here!

Apple Picking: Have you been yet? We picked our apples but that doesn’t stop us from visiting more of our favorite orchards to indulge in a few more cider donuts! Here’s a list of farms to try here.

Date Night: Just saw that Radici is back open after a few weeks off, and we’re psyched to enjoy our favorites once again! Find their menu and make reservations here.

Apple Picking: ‘Tis the season! We’re heading to the orchard this weekend and can’t wait to get our hands on apples of course, but everyone knows the star of the show is really the cider donuts ;) Check out our roundup of local orchards here!

The Weekender: September 10 - 12

Happy weekend! It’s back to school week and there’s a hint of fall in the air - and there’s also a whole lot of fall activities popping on the calendar! Here’s a few that caught our eye:

 
 

Never Forget: There will be a procession honoring the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks on Saturday at 9am. It’s set to include local first responders, police and firefighters and will head from the Ridge Street Fire House to City Park, followed by a pipe and drum music and speakers. Details here.

Ariel Posen at The Park Theater: Grab your tickets for Ariel Posen on Friday night! He’s got a rootsy sound - a little bit heartland rock & roll, electrified Americana, blue-eyed soul, R&B, and Beatles-inspired pop. For tickets and more info about this season’s events, click here!

Vette Fest: If Corvettes are your thing, you’ll want to check out Vette Fest this Sunday from 10am-2pm on Maple Street between The Queensbury Hotel and City Park. Cheese Tour: Have you ever gone on the Cheese Tour? It’s the perfect combination of beautiful views and farms, and delicious cheese (and wine and beer, too!). If you’ve never been, it’s a self-guided tour through the gorgeous back roads of Washington County - with an opportunity to visit (and sample!) at cheesemaking farms, a brewery, and a winery, and more. Adirondack Harvest Fest: Bring on the fall activities! Adirondack Harvest Festival Open Farm week starts on Monday, and there are so many great activities you’re going to want to fill your calendar with! Happy weekend! We're just back from a relaxing trip to Maine and looking forward to a weekend at home catching up on all of our favorite Glens Falls-y things. Here are a few:

 
 

Buyer and Cellar: Lake George Dinner Theatre is partnering with the Charles R. Wood Theater to present Buyer and Cellar through September 19! It’s “an outrageous comedy about the price of fame, the cost of things, and the oddest of odd jobs” and bonus - the theater organizations have curated culinary experiences to be enjoyed at downtown restaurants before or the show! New Season at The Park Theater: Mark your calendars - The Park Theater has announced its 2021-22 season! Save the date for Ariel Posen next Friday, September 10 - we hear he has a rootsy sound - a little bit heartland rock & roll, electrified Americana, blue-eyed soul, R&B, and Beatles-inspired pop. Apple Season: Can’t even believe we’re saying this, but apple season opens this weekend. Just saw Hicks in Granville will be picking early Macs and Ginger Golds - details here!

Art Sale + Benefit: Our friends at Varosy Studios in Greenwich (remember them from our feature on the Open Studios Tour here?!) are hosting an Art Sale + Benefit this weekend, including an exhibition and silent auction. A portion of the proceeds from the sale will be directed to cultural programming at local non-profit organizations, so it’s a win-win. And did we mention it’s a beautiful drive? Details here.

Two Art Openings: Another big night for openings downtown - Mountain Gallery will have an opening reception for Perspectives: Camera and Brush featuring the work of Ann and Gary Larsen on Friday from 6-8pm, and LARAC will host a reception for the opening of Eyes Wide Open from 5-7pm.

25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee: The latest show at The Wood Theater features an eclectic group of six mid-pubescents competing for the spelling championship of a lifetime, all while candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives. Get tickets here!

What Came Before: Not this weekend, but mark your calendar for What Came Before? on Wednesday 8/25 at The Chapman Museum - Bob Bayle and Andrea Matte will share some of their favorite “Now & Then” stories about places in Glens Falls and Queensbury. Sunflower Stroll: What’s summer without a stroll through a field of sunflowers?! We went out to Herrington’s in Buskirk last week and it was beautiful - walk the 2 acre field, pick your own blooms, and enjoy the view. Details here!

Cheese Jam at Nettle Meadow: Live music, Common Roots brews, and cheese - yes please! The Cheese Jam at Nettle Meadow Farm is back this Saturday and all proceeds go directly to the care, feeding and medications for more than 100 sweet sanctuary animals currently living on their farm. Adirondack Theatre Festival: The second show in ATF’s lineup, Traffic and Weather, opens tonight! Corn Maze: Fort Ticonderoga’s Corn Maze opens this weekend (which is always a reminder that summer is winding down, but we won’t discuss that now 🙃). The Park Theater just announced its inaugural weekly summer concert series at the Crandall Park Bandshell each Friday evening in July from 7-8:30pm - and it starts next Friday, July 2 (we’ll remind you next week of course, but save the date!). Splash Pad: Speaking of Crandall Park, have you and the kiddos been to the new Splash Pad yet? It’s going to be hot on Sunday, so that might be the perfect afternoon activity! It’s open on weekends from 11:30am-1pm, 2-3:30pm, and 5-6:30pm, and will be open weekdays starting next week - stay tuned to their Facebook page here for the latest updates on hours!

 
 

Dinner and a Show: Have you ever attended a lunch or dinner at Dancing Ewe Farm? It’s been on our summer to do list for a while now, and this Saturday’s dinner has the bonus of a performance by the Glens Falls Symphony! Not hungry? Island Picnic: We celebrated Bri’s birthday this past weekend with a favorite tradition - a cruise out to Speaker Heck Island on Lake George for a few hours of sipping rosé and a picnic lunch. No boat, no problem - highly recommend our pal Captain Ron from Love is on Lake George Cruises for a water taxi or custom cruises - grab his details here!

Jeep Invasion: We’re a Jeep family, so we were psyched to see the ADK Jeep Invasion on the calendar. Most of the event is for ticket holders only, but there’s a Show and Shine on Saturday night from 6-9pm at Charles Wood Park that’s open to the public. Dragons Baseball: Baseball is back in Glens Falls this month, and the Dragons have home games both Friday night and Sunday night - get the details here!

Disc Golf: Crandall Park is celebrating the official grand opening of the Crandall Park Disc Golf course this weekend with a Learn to Play Day, a Recreational Tournament, and a Pro Tournament. Strawberry Season: We’re patiently (okay, impatiently) waiting for the local strawberry fields to open for you-pick, but we just saw that Bowman Orchard in Rexford will be opening their strawberry fields for picking tomorrow! Strawberry shortcake, here we come. Details here.

The Weekender: June 4 - 6

Happy weekend! The forecast looks glorious, and we are happy to settle into summer mode a bit early. Here’s a few ideas for your agenda:

 
 

Summer at West Mountain: We were psyched to see that West Mountain is opening for the summer on June 5th! We went a few times last summer and loved the picnic package and hiking, and the aerial treetop adventure looks like it would be a blast for families. Race for the Rest of Us: If you’re looking for a fun, family friendly “race” that gives back to the community (and does not require months of training - it’s a 0.5K downtown!), this one’s for you. The United Way does so much for our community and this is a great way to give back. Sign up here!

Canal Street Marketplace: A little something to put on your calendar for next Thursday (and each Thursday this summer) - the Canal Street Marketplace in Fort Edward re-opens this week! While we love our Saturday Farmers Market here in Glens Falls, it’s always fun to meet new vendors and find new goodies at others, and this is a great one! Details here.

 
 

Lakota’s Farm Spring Artisan Market: We were excited to see that our friend’s at Lakota’s Farm in Cambridge are starting out the summer right with their Artisan Market! Local artists and crafters, live music, local breweries, wineries, and distilleries, food trucks, and more. Get the details here!

The Weekender: May 28 - May 30

Memorial Day Weekend! We’re ever so grateful, today and every day, for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for us all.

Hope your holiday weekend is filled with friends and family and good food - and also hope the weather makes a quick change from the 50 degree temps we just saw! Here are a few things that caught our eye:

Memorial Day Ceremony: We’re bummed that the parade is canceled, but the City of Glens Falls will host a remembrance ceremony at Cool Insuring Arena on Monday at 11:30am - get the details here!

New Outdoor Seating at Craft on 9: We caught a glimpse of the new outdoor seating situation at Craft on 9 on Facebook the other day and can’t wait to check it out! They’ll be open from 3-10pm on Friday and Saturday - details here. Cheers!

Two Exhibit Openings: We spotted two openings downtown this weekend - the LARAC Members Show Exhibit Opening is Friday from 5-7pm (details here) and and the opening for George VanHook’s People, Places, and Plein Air Exhibit at Mountain Gallery is on Friday from 6-8pm (details here).

 

Bolton Art + Craft Festival: We love a cruise up to Bolton to start the summer! Here are a few of our favorites if you decide to head up that way too, and bonus - the Art + Craft Festival is happening this weekend too - details here!

Seymour’s Restaurant: Our friends at Spruce Hospitality Group, which also operates The Queensbury Hotel, Fenimore’s Pub, and Park 26, just announced the planned opening of Seymour’s Restaurant and The Tap Room at Ticonderoga Golf Course this weekend! Rumor has it The Tap Room has an expansive patio overlooking the Lord Howe Valley and we can’t wait to drive up and check it out (and maybe pair it with a visit to Fort Ticonderoga?) - details here!

The Weekender: May 21 - 23

Happy weekend! It’s gone from spring to summer overnight, and we’re busy making summer garden plans - zinnias were a big success for us last year so that’s first on our list!

The Shirt Factory: The Thursday Market and Food Truck Corral is back at The Shirt Factory starting this week! Dinner, dessert, drinks, live music, and so many awesome vendors - can’t wait! Get the scoop here.

A Change of Scenery: We’ve been taking long walks around the city but decided to switch things up with a walk on the Rush Pond Way Trail in Queensbury. Our first time there and definitely not our last, it was a beautiful change of scenery (and we can’t wait to see it in the fall!). Get the details on the trail here.

 
 

Cambridge Valley Fine Art Tour: A favorite! We’re big fans of so many Washington County artists, and this is an opportunity to visit a few in their Cambridge studios - and enjoy a stroll around Cambridge while you’re at it (here are a few of our recommendations while you’re there).
