SHAMROCK SHUFFLE
What better way to whip yourself back into shape after a long winter than a 5 mile road race?! Truth be told, we haven’t gone for a good long run since last fall, but hey, there’s no time like the present, right? The race kicks off Sunday at 11am - sign up here.
THUNDER HOCKEY
After the fun we had last weekend watching Glens Falls win the Federation Tournament at the Cool Insuring Arena, we wouldn’t mind heading back this weekend for some hockey. They’re home Friday and Saturday night at 7pm! Grab all the details here.
COMMON ROOTS
We were saddened to see the news of the fire at Common Roots Brewing Company this week. We have no doubt they’ll come back stronger than ever, and they’ll have acommunity behind them as they rebuild. Click here to offer your support!
The Exchange Cafe
We couldn’t help but notice the new logo up on the windows at the former Rock Hill Bakehouse + Cafe! The Exchange is officially open for business and we’re looking forward to checking out the new menu and seeing what’s in store for the space. Looks like they’re open Monday - Friday, so we’re thinking a Friday morning coffee date is in order (and maybe the avocado toast we saw on their Instagram!).
Date Night
We’re always so excited to see new restaurants pop up downtown, and one of the latest, [farmacy] (from the owners of [forged] in Hudson Falls), opened their doors this week! We snuck in mid-week for a couple of drinks and small plates (we’ll share a peek tomorrow!), but we’ll probably be back sooner than later for more brown butter shishito peppers - so good. Check them out here.
Glens Falls Brewfest
It’s the first year we’re not going to be out of town for Brewfest, and we can’t wait to check it out! Held on Saturday at The Queensbury Hotel, they’ve got 70+ brewers lined up (some wine, too!), along with 8 restaurants for food samples, and live music. And bonus! Saturday’s weather looks gorgeous so it’ll be the perfect afternoon to walk downtown. Details here!
Rally for the Roots
We’re looking forward to this event in support of our friends from Common Roots Brewing Company in the wake of a fire at their brewery last week. While tickets for Rally for the Roots North at The Queensbury Hotel this weekend have sold out, there are still tickets available for the Rally for the Roots South event next Friday in Troy (details here). Can’t make it to either? You can still donate to their GoFundMe campaign here. Cheers to a swift rebuild!
Hicks Orchard
Maple Glazed Cider Donuts - need we say more? Just when we thought their regular cider donuts couldn’t get better… We took home a half dozen a couple of weeks ago and well, you’ll just need to taste them for yourself. So good. If we can get the Wagoneer started up, we’ll definitely be cruising out that way for more. And bonus: Slyboro is open for hard cider, too! Details here.
Rotary 5K
The Rotary 5K is this weekend and while we’re totally not in shape for it (okay fine, Tom is, but I’m definitely not), maybe you are! The race starts at 10am on Saturday morning at SUNY ADK and you can still register online here. I’ll be easing into the spring running season right after I finish the aforementioned maple glazed donuts ;)
Girl Blue
Have you checked out Susan Siplon’s picks for shows to see this month? Girl Blue was high on her list, and we’ve heard great things! Looks like you can still grab tickets to Friday’s show at The Park online (just $15!) here.
Kelly's Roots
What’s your favorite weekend brunch spot? We haven’t been over to Kelly’s Roots in a bit, and we always love their breakfast sammies, and of course, pancakes (the biggest decision - chocolate chips or blueberries?). Hoping their patio will be open soon if not already! Also, maybe we need to reconsider running in the 5K after the eating we have planned this weekend ;)
Earth Day
With Earth Day coming up on Monday, we’re looking to do our part around the city. Last year, we spent an hour at Crandall Park picking up some of the garbage that had accumulated over the winter, and we’re planning to do the same this Saturday morning. There’s also an Earth Day event in City Park on Saturday at noon with food trucks and live music - details here!
Johnny Cash Block Party
We’re always up for a Block Party, especially one that includes BBQ, bourbon, and beer! The Park Theater is hosting a Johnny Cash Tribute Band on Saturday night, along with barbecue and all the fixins’. They’ll have the Doc’s Restaurant patio open (hope the weather holds out for it!), and if it rains they’ll continue the party inside. Grab tickets here.
Easter Brunch
How will you be celebrating Easter? Brunch? Dinner? Just candy? Both of our families get together for brunch at Bri’s parents, but if you’re not in the mood to cook, we hear they’re serving brunch at Morgan and Company, and The Queensbury Hotel, among others!
Easter Dessert
It wouldn’t be Easter without sweets, and while we’re both huge fans of candy (bring on the orange and pink jelly beans!), there’s always room for more dessert. It’s become one of our Easter traditions to swing by Lake George Baking Company for some of their Lemon Cookies, and that’s just what we’ll be up to this weekend. They basically melt in your mouth, and they’re always a huge hit with our whole family.
Downtown Clean Up
Work up an appetite for Wing Fest by cleaning up downtown! There’s plenty of, ahem, “stuff” that turns up once the snow melts, so this is a perfect time to pitch in, pick up, and keep downtown looking spiffy for these pretty spring and summer months. Here are the details!
Wing Fest!
We’re excited to see the downtown event season kick off with Wing Fest! Live music, a beer garden, and of course, wings. Sign us up! Tastings start at noon on Saturday (please hold off, rain!). Get the scoop here, and thanks to the Glens Falls Collaborative for organizing!
Fiber Tour
After doing the Cheese Tour last fall (and going on our own antiques tour earlier this year!), we’re hoping to get out on another Washington County drive this weekend. This one features knitting and weaving demonstrations, but Bri’s just interested in petting the animals. Grab the details here!
Antiques
Have you been out to Second Chance Barn in Granville? It’s one of our favorite places for one of a kind vintage decor, and they’re opening back up for the season this weekend! We’re excited to take a ride out and see what’s new. Here’s where to find them.
Farmers' Market
The Glens Falls Farmers’ Market is back outdoors starting this weekend! Nothing says spring and summer like riding our bikes downtown on a Saturday morning to scoop up fresh flowers, fruits, and veggies. So excited to start the routine back up this weekend! It opens Saturday morning at 8am - details here.
Antique Fair
We brake for barn sales and antique shops, always, so it’s no surprise that the Washington County Antique Fair is high on our list this weekend. We’re looking forward to strolling the Fairgrounds (giant bag of kettle corn in hand, of course), and seeing what kinds of treasures await. More info here.
Cinco de Mayo
Ah, Cinco de Mayo - the perfect excuse to head down to Raul’s on a Sunday afternoon for a margarita, chips and guacamole - our fav. And if you’re more of a breakfast person, we hear Farmstead Flatbread has a Cinco de Mayo brunch happening with tunes from the Saratoga Strings Band. Or maybe, just do both :)
Glens Falls Symphony
The Glens Falls Symphony has their Season Finale on Sunday afternoon, and while we unfortunately can’t make it, you absolutely should! It’s the perfect way to disconnect for a bit (which fittingly, Maestro Charles Peltz talked about on GFL here!), and with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, it’s sure to be a hit! Details and tickets here.
Mother's Day Shopping
Did you catch our Mother’s Day Gift Guide? While it’s tempting to get your last minute shopping done via Amazon Prime, there are so many great gift options that you can pick up locally. Check out our little guide here, and we’ll probably run into you downtown doing our own last minute shopping.
Mother's Day Brunch
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, brunch is a thing in our family. The jury is still out on whether we’re going out or staying in, but we’re kind of leaning toward someone else doing the cooking this time. The Queensbury Hotel, Morgan and Company, and Davidson Brothers are doing brunch - where else? Any other favorites?
Building Stories
If you’re looking for something to do after breakfast, we’re thinking of strolling through the new exhibit at The Chapman this weekend, which features the stories of downtown buildings. After starting to dig into the history of our own home, we’re super interested in hearing the stories of other houses and buildings in the city. And good news, if we don’t make it this weekend, the exhibit runs through October! Find out more here.
Thursday Markets
Okay, so it’s not this weekend, but we figure this is as good a time as any to let you know that the Thursday Markets at The Shirt Factory start back up next Thursday, May 16! Food trucks, vendors, live music and lots of stuff for the kiddos. Grab all the details here!
Pet Fest
Downtown events continue this weekend with Pet Fest! Seeing City Park filled to the brim with animals is pretty much Bri’s idea of heaven, and sounds like they’ll have demos from the Glens Falls Police Dept K-9 Unit, agility dogs, and adoptable pets, too. We’ll likely swing by after the Farmers’ Market! Details here.
Date Night
It’s supposed to be in the 70s this weekend (80 degrees this Sunday?!), and the porch at Morgan and Co. seems like the perfect place to enjoy the warm weather - with a couple of drinks, of course. Well, and some of their famous Buffalo Cauliflower. Cheers!
R.S. Taylor
Have you been out to R.S. Taylor in Salem? The perfect spot for a Sunday drive, we’re hoping to sneak over for a couple of beers and an hour or two relaxing in their Adirondack chairs. Here’s where to find them.
Gardenworks
Speaking of Salem, we just saw on Facebook that Gardenworks is hosting a free garden tour on Saturday. Looks like they’ll be chatting about garden planning - from planting perennials to what plants work best in sun and shade. Sounds great to us since we need all the help we can get ;) Details here.
Parades
No Memorial Day would be complete without taking in the annual Glens Falls Memorial Day parade, which begins downtown and makes it’s way down Glen Street at 10am on Monday (grab those details here). And if you’re really in a parade state of mind this weekend, head just over the bridge for the South Glens Falls Parade on Friday night at 6pm. More info here.
Springbrook Hollow
Have you been to Springbrook Hollow Farm Distillery? It’s right in Queensbury, and definitely worth a visit! This weekend marks their 4th anniversary and they’re celebrating with a party - live music, food, summer cocktails (!!) and local artisan vendors. Sounds right up our alley! Grab the scoop here.
Urban Assault
Have you guys ever run in the Urban Assault? It’s a 3.5 mile run with a twist - obstacles! It looks like such a blast. Every year we declare that next year will be the year we do it, and, well, here we are planning to cheer you on as you run by :) Get the details and sign up here.
Bear's Cup
There’s a new coffee shop opening in Bolton this weekend, and we may just find ourselves there for a cup and a bagel. We stumbled across the Bear’s Cup Instagram account a few months ago, and it’s been so much fun to see their progress. The space looks amazing, and we’re looking forward to seeing it in person! Follow along here.
Race for the Rest of Us
This one caught our eye. A .5k - yep, POINT FIVE. The Tri-County United Way is hosting a .31 mile race downtown, followed by live music and activities in City Park. Get the scoop and sign up here. The good news is if you start training tonight, you’ll definitely be ready by Saturday ;)
Hike
In case the big “race” wasn’t ambitious enough for you, we’re also thinking of squeezing in the first hike of the season. We always love The Pinnacle or Anthony’s Nose for a quick climb with an awesome view, but Buck and Black Mountains are high on our list for local hikes as well. We’d love to hear other recommendations if you have any!
Ball Game
Looks like Dragons Baseball is back at East Field on Friday to kick off their summer season! And attention local basketball fans, JG3 will be throwing out the first pitch and hosting a meet and greet session during the game. We’re hoping to take in a couple of games this summer, and this one sounds like a great one to start with. Find the details here!
Date Night
We couldn’t help but notice the awesome outdoor seating that went in downtown at Mikado, and since we have yet to try their new location, it’s clear that drinks are in order! Have you been? What should we get?! Check out their details here.
Cambridge Valley Balloon Festival
Combine a pretty Washington County town with a Balloon Festival and you have a sure win in our book! We’re really hoping to make it out to Cambridge for the Festival this weekend, which includes four balloon launches, fireworks, a strawberry shortcake sale, and a car show! Grab the details here.
Yoga on Glen Street
Yup, you heard right, yoga on Glen Street; how cool is that? Such a great idea by Yoga Kayla to raise awareness of the benefits of togetherness, mindfulness, and the practice of Yoga. Even better, proceeds benefit our local Tri-County United Way. Details here.
Americade
In case you haven’t noticed, Americade is in full swing and wrapping up this weekend. It’s always fun to see all of the cool bikes, new and old. We don’t own a bike, but Tom always seems to get tempted this time of year... Ride safe out there everyone, and catch the details for this weekend’s events here.
Upstate Kids Expo
We don’t have kids, (well, two with four paws), but if we did we’d have to check this out. The second annual Kids Expo looks to be jam-packed with everything you’d need to know about all the great resources for little ones in the area. It’s free, and bonus - there’s pony rides and face painting. Get the scoop here.
LARAC
One of our favorite events of the year! City Park will be filled with over 150 booths featuring everything from food to fine art, so there’s definitely something for everyone. Not to mention live music, activities for the kiddos, food trucks…we could go on! Grab the details here.
Crandall Library Book Sale
Just in case you’re looking for more shopping this weekend, Crandall Library is having a big summer book sale and rumor has it there are thousands of books (and DVDs and CDs…) up for grabs. We’ve never been, but might just need to get over there tomorrow morning to see what it’s all about! Find the details here.
Calling All Kates
The Adirondack Theatre Festival kicks off this weekend with the opening of Calling All Kates! We’ve loved every show we’ve seen at ATF in year’s past, and this year’s line-up looks better than ever. Calling All Kates (a romantic musical comedy!) runs from June 14 - 22, and you can grab tickets here (hurry - they’ll go fast!).
Father's Day
Father’s Day snuck up on us this year, but we sure love a good excuse to celebrate our Dads! In our family that typically involves a cookout of some kind, but if you don’t feel like firing up the grill, it looks like Davidson Brothers is having a Barbecue Buffet, and Farmstead Flatbread is having a Father’s Day Brunch. Happy Day to all the Dads!
Tom Petty Tribute
There’s an All American Beer Party happening at The Park this weekend featuring Tom Petty tribute Refugee - and since we’re constantly listening to Tom Petty’s greatest hits in our Wagoneer, we’re hoping to check this one out. Grab the details here.
Strawberry Picking
’Tis the season! We’re excited to bring home some freshly picked strawberries, and even more excited to whip up some strawberry shortcake and strawberry rhubarb pie. We’re looking forward to trying Hand Melon Farm for picking this year - where is your favorite place to pick?
Saratoga Balloon & BBQ Festival
We love the Adirondack Balloon Fest in the fall of course, and it’s been fun to see smaller balloon events pop up throughout the year as well. We’ve never been down to the Saratoga Festival, but with 30 balloons, food, live music, and a beer + wine garden, it sounds right up our alley. Details here.
Ice Cream
It’s the first day of summer tomorrow, and we figure we might as well celebrate with an ice cream cone or two. Coopers Cave and Rob and Deb’s Frozen Dreams are always favorite, and we love the gelato at the Lake George Olive Oil Company, too. Cheers!
ADK Wine + Food Festival
We always seem to be out of town for this event, but it looks like such a great one. With over 120 wine, craft beverage, and food vendors, this is definitely right up our alley - and steps away from the lake. Grab the details here.
Baseball Game
We’re hoping to take in a Mets game this weekend at Citi Field, but it looks like the Glens Falls Dragons are home this weekend as well if you’re in the mood to head to a ball game! Check out their schedule here.
Building Stories
We’re looking forward to checking out The Chapman’s new exhibit which features the stories of downtown buildings. After starting to dig into the history of our own home, we’re super interested in hearing the stories of other houses and buildings in the city. And good news, if we don’t make it this weekend, the exhibit runs through October! Find out more here.
Summer of Pies
Bri has declared this the summer of pies and is baking one pie per week all summer. A lofty goal, but I don’t hear Tom complaining about being the official taste tester. The first attempt at strawberry rhubarb needs a couple of tweaks, but here’s the pie crust recipe I use that’s always a sure win. (And if you have a winning pie recipe, we’d love to feature it! Email us at hello@glensfallsliving.com).
Darling Doughnuts + Common Roots
Have you been to the temporary taproom at Common Roots yet? They’re teaming up with another favorite of ours, Darling Doughnuts, for a doughnut and beer pairing, and we couldn’t think of a more perfect time to check it out if you haven’t! Grab the details here.
Blueberry Picking
It’s blueberry season! We just saw the announcement go up that Winney’s Blueberry Farm in Schuylerville is opening for the season tomorrow (Friday)! We’ve also had great luck picking at Hick’s Orchard (doesn’t look like theirs are ready, but they just opened for cherry picking!)…anywhere else we should try? Can’t wait to make the first fresh blueberry pie of the season.
Outdoor Cinema
There’s nothing more “Hometown USA” than a movie under the stars in City Park. Art in the Public Eye presents family friendly movies all summer long on Friday nights, and while we don’t have kids, you may see us watching from afar as we enjoy a drink on the porch at Morgan and Co or the patio at Park 26. Check out the schedule here.
ADK Theatre Festival
The summer is in full swing and we can’t believe the second show of ATF is about to begin! The Enlightenment of Percival Von Schmootz opens tomorrow (Friday) and it sounds like a fun musical comedy about a young man finding hope and humor in some not-so-great circumstances. Find all the details here.
Artisan Trail
Not to be confused with the Washington County Open Studios Tour (which we shared a sneak peak of earlier this week and is scheduled for next weekend), Artisan Trails in Washington County has a self guided studio tour throughout the county this weekend. There are 13 artisans on the map to visit - from potters to quilters to photographers - and Bri already has her eye on some landscape paintings. Grab the details and the map here.
Lavenlair Farm
Featured on the Artisan Trail but not to be missed, Lavenlair Farm is a gem in Washington County and one of our favorite spots for a summer weekend drive. Fields of gorgeous French and English lavender set behind an old stone house and a red barn, you’ll feel like you’re a world away. Their u-pick season runs through the end of July so get there soon! Details here.
Date Night
It’s been a minute since we’ve enjoyed a cold margarita and some chips and guac, so we’re thinking Raul’s is in the cards this weekend. Their patio overlooking Glen Street doesn’t hurt on an 80 degree summer night either! Here are their details if you’re in the mood for some Mexican fare too!
Bike Ride
It’s looking like perfect cruiser bike weather this weekend, and we’re hoping to leave the Jeep in the driveway in favor of bike rides to the Farmer’s Market, downtown for dinner, and maybe a little ice cream too. See you out there!
Open Studios Tour
We are so excited to head out on the Open Studios Tour this weekend! We shared a little sneak peek a couple of weeks ago (check it out here if you missed it), and we’re looking forward to visiting the rest of the artists on the tour and hopefully bringing home a little souvenir :) Grab all the details here, including our recommendations on where to eat and drink along the way.
Lakota's Farm Dinner
Can’t wait to head out to Lakota’s Farm on Friday night for a Farm to Table Dinner! Gorgeous setting, local craft beer and cider, a delicious menu - and bonus: part of the proceeds will benefit Hubbard Hall in Cambridge. Grab your tickets here before they sell out!
Vintage Tent Sale
One of our favorite local antique shops, Antiques Market Place, is having a tent sale this weekend, and we’re hoping to make our way up for a look around before it gets too hot (though it looks like there are sales throughout the store, too!). We always love perusing their local memorabilia and can’t wait to see what treasures we find this time. Details here.
Downtown Social
We just heard that Downtown Social is now open for lunch, and we’re looking forward to checking out the menu and enjoying a cold drink on the patio…or inside in the AC! Here’s a peek at the menu - love that they even have a menu for the pups. Cheers!
GEM Fest
GEM Fest (short for Glens Falls Entertainment & Music Festival) kicks off Friday night and lasts through late Saturday evening. Looks like there’s a ton going on - live music, live comedy, live artists, a film festival, theatrical shorts, and more. Glen Street will be closed on Saturday for performances on stage as well as a vendor fair - can’t wait to check it out! Get the schedule and all the details here.
GEMbouree + Chalk Fest
Sounds like City Park will be the place to be for families on Saturday! A bounce house, music for the kiddos, arts and crafts, and more. And they’ve combined it with Chalk Fest, so we’re looking forward to strolling through and seeing the artwork created on the sidewalks around the park. Get the info here!
Minne Rock the Dock
We’ve loved seeing some more specialty events popping up from Lake George Steamboat Company over the last few years (like Rock the Dock), and this series looks like fun - Minne Rock the Dock! This Saturday it features a cruise on the Minne Ha Ha with live music from The Refrigerators - grab tickets here.
Sequence
How are we already three shows in to the 2019 Adirondack Theater Festival season?! We’re looking forward to seeing Sequence, which opened this week and promises to be an edge of your seat thriller. Sign us up! You can get the full scoop and purchase tickets here.
Roots Vegan Festival
We’re psyched to head down to the very first vegan festival in the city on Sunday. Lots of plant based options to try and vendors to shop, and if the food is anything like this recipe we shared from [farmacy] this week (which we know it will be!), we’re in for a treat. Grab the scoop here.
Washington County Antique Fair
We can never pass up a good antique shop, so what could be better than over 200 antique vendors all in one place?! This fair is one of our local favorites and we always manage to find a treasure or two (in addition to our giant bag of kettle corn!). Find the info here.
New Way Lunch 100th Anniversary
Mini Golf
With August here already, we’re brainstorming an end of summer bucket list, and at the top is a family ride out to Hillbilly Fun for ice cream and mini golf. This was one of our favorite summer traditions as kids and it seems like the perfect weekend to make it happen. Grab their details here.
Mean Max
Five Years of Beer already?! Mean Max is throwing a party to celebrate with 3 new beers, food, and live music. Sign us up! Grab the scoop here.
Plein Air Festival + Community Day
The Hyde kicked off their Plein Air Festival this week, and we’re looking forward to spotting the painters around town and sneaking a peek at their work. The Festival culminates on Sunday at The Hyde with all of the pieces on display, as well as what looks to be a fun filled Community Day of tours, family activities, live music, and more. Get the details here.
Brunch
What’s your go-to brunch spot? We just heard the news that [farmacy] will be serving brunch starting THIS Sunday, and we can’t wait to see what they have in store. Follow along with them here for the latest.
Mark Your Calendar
With summer sneaking away, we’re marking down the things we don’t want to miss over the next couple of weeks. On the list: grab tickets for Grandma’s Table (al fresco on Maple Street!) next weekend, make our way down to the last Take a Bite of the year (already?!), and try to squeeze in a farm to table dinner at Dancing Ewe, Canal Street Marketplace, or Lakota’s Farm.
Al Fresco on Maple Street
It’s not every day you can enjoy a meal in the middle of one of our charming streets downtown (with food from six local restaurants, no less!). The weather on Sunday looks great, and we hear there are a few seats left, so snatch up your tickets (and all the details) here!
Blueberry Picking, Again
Blueberry season is starting to wind down, so we’re hoping to sneak in some more while the picking’s good. We always love Winney’s, Hicks, and Gardenworks, but might head into Vermont this weekend to visit and pick at Merck Forest and Farm (a beautiful place to explore if you haven’t been!). Here are their details if you’re up for a ride!
Over the Top
Lots happening at West Mountain this weekend with their Run, Bike, and Brew Festival! The name pretty much says it all, and it sounds like a little something for everyone - with the beer garden (and live music!) open to folks who aren’t biking or running, too. Grab the scoop here.
Hike
If we can get the weather to cooperate, we’re itching to get out for another hike this weekend. We’re reinspired to get back up to the High Peaks after watching The 46ers film, but figure we’d better tackle some smaller local mountains first to get back in shape. We’ve heard great things about Ampersand Mountain and Giant’s Nubble. Any suggestions?
Craft on 9
We’re psyched that Craft on 9 is heading up to Glens Falls, but before they do, they’re celebrating their last night serving dinner in SGF with a Closing Party on Saturday night. Check out the details here!
An Evening at the Lavender Farm
Have you been to Lavenlair Farm? They’ve teamed up with Nine Pin Cider for an awesome event tonight with live music, Lavender Lemonade Cider, and a spectacular view for sunset. Grab your tickets and the details here!
Building Stories
We’re looking forward to checking out the Building Stories exhibit at The Chapman which features the stories of downtown buildings. After starting to dig into the history of our own home, we’re super interested in hearing the stories of other houses and buildings in the city. And if it’s just too nice out to go inside this weekend, the exhibit runs through October! Find out more here.
Washington County Fair
Can’t believe the Fair is already upon us, but this weekend is your last chance to head out to the fairgrounds for shows, rides, games, animals, and of course the food (and beer and wine!). See the schedule and get the scoop here.
Labor Day Cookout
But of course! We’re looking forward to some great food and even better company this weekend, and planning to head to the Farmers Market bright and early (hopefully!) Saturday morning to grab everything we need for a feast (and flowers! Did you catch our story on River ‘Rangements?). Will we see you at the Market? Grab their info here.
Springbrook Hollow Farm Distillery
We were just chatting with our neighbor (Hi Dan!) and he mentioned his visit to Springbrook Hollow today - which got us thinking it’s high time for us to get over there! Tom is due for another quality bottle of gin as G&T season winds down, and rumor has it they serve cocktails on the weekend, too! Here’s their info. Cheers!
Tomato Picking
With blueberries winding down, and apples not quite ready yet, we were excited to see that Hand Melon Farm has u-pick tomatoes, eggplant, peppers and fall squash starting this weekend! Can’t say we’ve ever gone tomato picking before, so we’re excited to give it a whirl - get the details here.
Garlic Fest
We were just flipping through Yankee Magazine (okay, Bri was) and saw that this weekend is the Garlic and Herb Festival in Bennington, VT. Plenty of vendors with everything from garlic bulbs, to garlic jelly, to garlic ice cream. We may need to go just to sample that! Looks like there’s also a beer and wine garden and lots to do for the kiddos too - grab the scoop here.
Cheese Tour
Have you ever gone on the Cheese Tour? We went last year for the first time and it was the perfect combination of beautiful views and farms, and delicious cheese (and wine and beer, too!). If you’ve never been, it’s a self-guided tour through the gorgeous back roads of Washington County - with an opportunity to visit (and sample!) at cheesemaking farms, a brewery, and a winery. Looks like a perfect weekend for it, too! Here are the details.
Car Show Weekend
Tom is all about this, of course! First up is Vette Fest in Downtown Glens Falls, which culminates in a Car Show on Maple Street on Sunday. Grab the schedule and all the details on that here. And for an even bigger show, the Adirondack Nationals Car Show is happening in Lake George this weekend with cruises on Canada Street, fireworks, and row after row of classic cars + hot rods. Here’s the scoop and the schedule.
Date Night
We heard through the grapevine that Fenimore’s at The Q is re-opening this weekend after a month long renovation. We’re excited to see the changes to the space and of course, grab a drink and a bite from their new fall menu! Stay tuned for our First Look, coming soon, and grab their details here.
Apple Picking
It still seems kind of early, but we couldn’t help but notice that Hick’s is open for u-pick apples starting this weekend! Truth be told, we’ll probably wait another week before heading out to pick, but these chilly mornings have us ready for some apple crisp and apple pie. Get the latest updates from Hicks here, and watch for a story on some favorite local orchards coming next weekend!
Fit Fest
Since we’ve already started eating too many cider donuts, we’re thinking that stopping by Fit Fest on Saturday might be in our best interest ;) Sounds like there will fitness classes, demos, healthy snacks, and activities for the kiddos - all centered around health and wellness - and all right downtown in City Park. Get the scoop here.
Antique + Vintage Market
Have you ever been to Vischer Ferry General Store? It’s one of our favorite shops - friendly, cozy, beautifully curated, with delicious goodies to boot. They’re having an Antique and Vintage Market this Saturday, and we’re looking forward to driving down to scoop up some treasures. Find out more here!
Harvest Fest
We’re firmly in the “bring on fall” camp, and what better way to kick it off than with Harvest Fest downtown on Sunday? Entertainment, food (mac and cheese cook off anyone?), and lots of kids activities, too. Here are all the details!
Concours d’Elegance
Just in case you’re still in the mood to peruse beautiful old cars after last weekend’s car show (and yes, Tom most definitely is) Hemmings is hosting the 13th annual Concours d’Elegance up in Lake George this weekend. Grab the details here!
Balloon Festival
No surprise here! We’ll be up before the sun both days and can’t wait to see those hot air balloons take flight as the sun comes up. And who are we kidding, we’ll probably be there for the evening launches, too. Get all the details, including schedule and the all important directions and parking info here.
Breakfast
What’s an early morning wake up call on a weekend without a good brunch? After some obligatory balloon “chasing”, we’ll inevitably wind up out for breakfast. Where to this year? Your guess is as good as ours, but some of our local favorites are Farmstead Flatbread, Morgan and Co, Farmacy, and of course, the Big Balloon Breakfast at the airport (where the proceeds benefit the Open Door Mission)! Where’s your go-to balloon festival weekend breakfast?
Craft Fair
We know it’s all about the balloons, but have you ever visited the craft fair at the Balloon Fest? Zonta holds their fall craft show at the airport during the festival (and not just during the launches - all day!). Grab the details here, and maybe think about arriving early or staying later (and avoiding the traffic!), and browsing the vendors!
Music Festival
And if you’re all Balloon-ed out (or just looking for something to do between launches!), we hear there’s a Live Music Festival up in Bolton Landing on Saturday with everything from swing, to funk, folk, and rock. And, it’s free! Check out the details here.
Taste of the North Country
A favorite fall event downtown, this year will feature samples from 30 local restaurants, live music, and a beer garden at the Queensbury Hotel. As a kid, I have fond memories of my grandpa sitting in his chair, mapping out which foods he wanted to sample from each restaurant - and now as an adult, I totally get it! We’ll be bringing our appetite, for sure. Grab the info here!
Apple Picking + Cider Donuts
How could we let the weekend go by without a word about apple picking or cider donuts?! ’Tis the season, and as promised we’re sharing five local apple orchards to visit in our latest Road Trip series post. Check it out here! And now to decide what to make: pie, crisp, or cobbler?!
Potato Picking
This season is all about the apple picking, yes, but have you ever been potato picking? We haven’t either, but we’re excited to give it a whirl (and we’re excited for home fries, but that’s another story). Goose Island Potatoes in Argyle has U-pick this weekend and next weekend if you’d like to give it a go! Here are the details.
Glens Falls Symphony
It’s hard to believe the Glens Falls Symphony has it’s opening night for the 2019-2020 season this weekend - time flies! Their first concert on Sunday not only features a celebration of the music of Spain (aptly titled Flamenco!), but will also incorporate performances by flamenco dancers. If you’re in the mood for a delightful show to cap off the weekend, grab your tickets here!
Steamboat Ride
We’re celebrating our anniversary this weekend, and since we were married on Lake George it seems only fitting to do a little something at the lake to celebrate. We haven’t been out on the Minne Ha Ha yet this season (one of our favorite staycation-y things to do), so this might just be the weekend (and the colors are starting to pop, too!). Here’s their schedule if you’re thinking about a boat ride, too!
World's Largest Garage Sale
With over 500 vendors offering everything from antiques to furniture and memorabilia, it might indeed be the largest! Would love your tips!
Fright Fest
Now that it’s October, Halloween decorations, activities, movies (okay, and candy) are fair game! Looks like they’ve got tons of haunted rides, shows, and attractions if you’re up for a scare! Get the details here.

Have you checked out Craft on 9 since it opened in it’s new location downtown? We popped in for dinner and a drink this week, and both the food and the space are incredible (so much so that we may head back this weekend!). Highly recommend if you’re out for date night this weekend, and stay tuned for our First Look at Craft on 9 next week!
Landscapes for Landsake
After our experience on the Open Studios Tour in Washington County this summer (read about that here!), we were pretty taken with the talented artists we visited, their gorgeous work, and the beautiful farmland we traveled through. Buy gorgeous art, and save local farms - win-win! Grab the details here.
